Summary:
This vertical format book is a collection of poems that talk about different types of trees and their unique characteristics, such as Coconut Palm, Baobab, and Giant Sequoias. It also includes some poems about different components that make up the anatomy of a tree, such as tree rings, leaves, and bark.
Evaluation:
An appropriate grade level for this book would be 1st to 4th grade because it serves more as an educational book rather than a fun book, therefore the student needs to have a stronger reading ability. I would definitely use this book because it is a great educational book. The vertical format of the book was unique, and it made it easier to be able to see the full beautiful tree illustrations. The poems were very detailed and some of them were actually funny so this can grab students’ attentions. I would use this book in a lesson where we are creating our own family tree. Choosing some of the poems in this book to read aloud to my students would perfectly tie up this lesson.
